Driver changes

Lewis Hamilton ends his 12-year career with Mercedes to join Ferrari for a multi-year contract. Carlos Sainz is replaced by Hamilton, ending his four-year career with Ferrari, and the Spanish driver joins Williams alongside Alexander Albon. Hamilton is replaced by Formula 2 and Mercedes junior driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

Kevin Magnussen decided to leave Haas as well as his teammate Nico Hülkenberg, who joins Sauber. Haas replaces them with reserve driver Oliver Bearman and Estebean Ocon after the latter was released from Alpine. Jack Doohan, who replaced Ocon at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, has a one-year contract with Alpine

Kick Sauber is another team to have a full new driver line-up for 2025: Valterri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu parted ways with the Swiss team after three years together. Bottas decides to become a reserve driver for Mercedes, the first time he's with the team since 2021. The second Sauber seat is filled by 2024 Formula 2 World Champion Gabriel Bortoleto.

One of the biggest hightlights for driver changes is Sergio Perez, who leaves Red Bull Racing despite having a contract until 2026. The vacant seat is filled by RB driver Liam Lawson and the last Racing Bulls seat is taken by Red Bull reserve and 2024 Formula 2 runner-up Isack Hadjar.

Season Review

Max Verstappen looks the favourite to win another title for 2025, but with Red Bull falling behind Mclaren and Ferrari, it is going to be tougher for the Flying Dutchman to claim the Drivers' Championship than last year. Pre-season had finished and Mclaren is has the fastest car yet again. Ferrari is not far behind and Red Bull looks to be challenged by the Mercedes team.

Opening Rounds

Lewis learned from his mistakes in 2024 and started the 2025 season in a strong form as he won the season opener in Australia. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton won the first sprint race of the season at China but Lando Norris was too fast for the Ferrari as Mclaren secured their first 1-2 of the season with Norris taking another win. Despite Hamilton taking pole in Australia and Charles Leclerc at China, Norris took his first pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix. However, Oscar Piastri started second but had the pace for victory and overtook Norris on the opening lap, taking his first win of the season. Hamilton took his second podium finish for Ferrari with third place. Esteban Ocon and Isack Hadjar have a small rivalry between them as both had a small collision at the Chinese Grand Prix. Alpine continue to suffer with mechanical failures which led to the retirement of Jack Doohan at Sakhir and Pierre Gasly at Jeddah. As things stand, Oscar Piastri leads the championship by three points ahead of Lewis Hamilton and six points ahead of Charles Leclerc. On the constructors' side, Ferrari and Mclaren are tied with 117 points, 60 points ahead of third place Red Bull. Rumors have spread that Aston Martin might come back as podium contenders, as well as Haas, RB, and Sauber might fight for the big points.

Middle East and Miami Rounds

Charles Leclerc managed to outpace his teammate and the Mclarens to claim his first win of the season at Bahrain. Another new winner had come, and it was reigning world champion Max Verstappen who executed the perfect race strategy to finish ahead of his rivals. He describes it as hard and amazing as the Red Bull car hasn't been the best. Oliver Bearman scored his points this season for Haas with tenth in Saudi Arabia. Isack Hadjar is another rookie to score his first ever point in Formula One with tenth at the Miami Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Norris wins at the Miami Grand Prix, his second at the venue, ahead of Charles Leclerc and teammate Oscar Piastri. It is Charles Leclerc who leads the championship by two points ahead of Lando Norris and fifteen points ahead of Oscar Piastri.

Start of European and Canadian Rounds until the start of summer break

Charles Leclerc won his first Grand Prix at Emilia-Romagna, delighting the Ferrari fans who awaited for this achievement at the circuit. Max Verstappen fought hard with the challenging RB21 car to claim third place. Leclerc was on a roll when he took the chequered flag first at the prestigous Monaco Grand Prix, his second win at the venue. There was also a strong performance for Jack Doohan, who scored his first point finish in his F1 career. Charles Leclerc's two win streak came to an end when Lando Norris pulled off an amazing and dominant win at Spain, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli, who claims his first ever podium in his Formula One career. The Canadian Grand Prix was an eventful one, including six drivers who crashed or experienced mechanical failures, including championship contender Charles Leclerc. The driver from Monaco lost ground to Lando Norris who managed third place. Amidst the chaos, George Russell sealed Mercedes' first win of the season ahead of Max Verstappen, cementing himself as the new leader at the Brackley-based team. There was also some good performance from Gabriel Bortoleto, finishing tenth despite driving a slow Kick Sauber. Oscar Piastri returned to winning ways at the Austrian Grand Prix ahead of his teammate Norris, resulting as a 1-2 for Mclaren. Lewis Hamilton, who won the opening race in Australia, returned as well to winning ways in fashion by claiming victory at his home race at Silverstone. He was not done yet when he beat his teammate Leclerc, who started from pole, at the race start and taking another win at Belgium, resulting in a 1-2 for Ferrari. Lando Norris led the way at the Hungarian Grand Prix and it resulted in another 1-2 for Mclaren, showing off their dominance.

End of summer break, last European and Singapore Rounds

Lando Norris jumped back in form as he took victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Liam Lawson, who took his first ever F1 podium. Hamilton won his fourth race of the season at Monza, delighting all Ferrari fans who had awaited for that moment. Leclerc's P2 result meant that Ferrari claimed another 1-2. More surprises came to Azerbaijan, with Piastri divebombing Lewis Hamilton on the final corner to clinch the win at Baku. Fernando Alonso claimed Aston Martin's first podium of the season thanks to the amazing car development progress the British team had been doing. At Singapore, Hadjar crashed into the barriers on what used to be the Singapore Sling, resulting in a Safety Car. That allowed Alonso, who was leading the race on old tires, to pit for fresh ones and beat Leclerc to the line to claim his first ever win in 12 years! It borught lots of points to him and Aston Martin as they come closer to Mercedes...

North and South American Rounds

As the season soon comes to the final race at Abu Dhabi, many shocking events had occured. For instance, Charles Leclerc dominated his teammate in a 1-2 at Austin as Ferrari want to beat Mclaren. Mclaren still had it in the bag, with Norris taking another win at Mexico City. The Sao Paulo Grand Prix was an absolute disaster. 7 DNFs in the heavy rain at Brazil meant that the race had to be shortened and was won by Fernando Alonso, who managed to pass thorugh everyone and thanks to his team who found the right strategy. Pierre Gasly finished second while Yuki Tsunoda scored third, his first ever podium in his career. Many other drivers finished in unusual positions, like Hamilton in tenth or Esteban Ocon in fourth. Meanwhile, Hamilton returned back to where he was when he crossed the chequered flag first at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, leading Leclerc and Alonso.

The final rounds....

This is it. Two races and one sprint to go. For the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix, Ferrari took the lead of the Constructors' Championship. But can the Italian team retain the lead from the hungry Mclaren. Let us not forget the Drivers' Championship. Lando Norris has the advantage with 8 points on Leclerc, 9 points on Hamilton. The Qatar Grand Prix was owned by Charles Leclerc who managed to fend off Norris to win at Lusail. That meant that Leclerc and Norris were even on points. Hamilton was behind both by 12 points meaning he can also win the title, however Piastri is 38 points behind meaning he is out of contention. It all went down to the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton brought the curtains down to claim victory at Abu Dhabi.

However, it is the man with 6 wins, 16 podiums, and 416 points who wins his first ever title. Lando Norris. His race engineer congratulated him with delight, Norris got out of the car and jumped towards his crew members. The British driver who learned from his mistakes from 2024 and came in 2025 with a new mindset.

After all the drama, who know what we have in store for 2026? With the arrival of Audi and Cadillac, 11 teams can add more action in the future. But until then, goodbye!
