F1 but Jaguar actually care: 2001

2001 was yet more improvement over 2000, with the team winning it's first race and beating McLaren to 3rd place in the constrcutors championship. Juan Pablo Montoya proved to be worth the money he was after buying him out of his Williams contract for 2001, getting 2nd place on his first ever race then taking the teams first ever in in Formula One by beating Michael Schumacher in Brazil. He scored another win at the Austrian Grand Prix as he fought for the runners up spot in the championship against Rubens Barrichello. He got some more podium finishes at Germany and the Hungaroring and then got his best win of the season, beating Rubens Barrichello in wet conditions at Spa. However, his challenge for second would implode in the next three races, retiring from all of them and also losing 3rd place to Ralf Schumacher in the Williams after some great late season form from the German. Eddie Irvine couldn't keep up with Montoya over the season, but the results do look slightly skewed in the Cololmbian's favour after he suffered from poor reliability. He did score consistent points throughout 2001 however, and got 3 podium finishes again with third at Monaco, 2nd at Silverstone and 2nd at Italy. However, he lost out to Jos Verstappen in the Williams for 6th place in the championship after being beaten in Japan by the Dutchman. The team would retain its 2001 lineup for 2002, as they looked to dethrone the dominant combo of Ferrari, Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.
