Jones had been expecting Reutemann to let him by, which was why he hadn't attacked him in Brazil. In my simulation, Jones would've passed Reutemann due to team orders being truly illegal. In San Marino, Piquet would've also had to pass Prost on his way to the front, therefore not having enough time to overtake Pironi and begin his shuffle down the order. In Belgium, Pironi was having brake issues.
Villeneuve got an especially low number of laps in before the race in Austria, and Pironi in Germany along with Austria. In Germany, Prost would've stayed ahead of Jones until the rain, allowing him to stay ahead of Reutemann and Piquet. Villeneuve will of course win the championship on countback.
