In Spain, De Vries wouldn't have been boxed in behind Magnussen for the entire race as he would've qualified higher without his Q1 spin, and so would've finished high up using his actual, speedy, pace. De Vries would've been able to clear faster cars as they had less straight-line speed. In Mexico, without front wing damage, Leclerc would've been faster and had even less tire wear. In addition, starting third behind Verstappen and Ricciardo would've allowed Leclerc to lead into turn 1 using the slipstream, forcing Verstappen into dirty air. Verstappen would've pitted earlier, most likely around lap 10, and so would've had to pit again. Meanwhile, Leclerc wouldn't have had the tire issues he had after the restart, as there would've been no restart with Magnussen not having a brake failure.
