The 2022 Formula One season marked the 73rd iteration of the FIA Formula One World Championship. It saw an array of interesting developments, including as changes regarding technical regulations, new racing locations, and significant driver and team transfers. With a combination of spectacular races and compelling storylines, the season saw tight competition among the best teams and drivers. The implementation of new technical restrictions aimed at improving racing and enhancing competitiveness was one of the most important developments in 2022. To minimise turbulent flows and enable closer racing, the vehicles underwent extensive aerodynamic improvements, including streamlined front wings and ground effects. Furthermore, the addition of 18-inch wheels and low-profile tyres provided a cosmetic upgrade to the vehicles. The season included 22 races, beginning in Bahrain on March 20, and concluding in Abu Dhabi on November 20. Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull Racing, started the season as the defending World Drivers' Champion, looking to earn his second title.

Red Bull Racing had another strong season in 2022, with drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Early on, they appeared second to Ferrari, finishing 3rd and 4th in Bahrain. By late-season, extensive upgrades and their superior race pace allowed them to catch up to Ferrari. Verstappen emerged as a title contender once again, and produced dominant races which ultimately led to him leading the championship, obtaining 10 wins and 18 podiums. As Red Bull stayed ahead of Ferrari, Verstappen was then able to clench his second Drivers Championship in Mexico, achieving 420 points, a comfortable 100 points ahead of Sainz. Perez struggled to keep up with Verstappen, failing to achieve a podium finish in the first 5 races, however did obtain 7 podiums, including a win in Baku, eventually finishing 5th in the drivers standing, with 275 points. Red Bull clenched their fifth Constructors title with 695 points, their first since 2013.

Scuderia Ferrari stormed into title contention in the first half of the 2022 season, primarily due to the supremacy of their power unit. The team took advantage of aerodynamic advancements, however their race pace lacked somewhat, which allowed Red Bull to catch them. A rivalry between drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz began to emerge in Australia, continued throughout 2022 and developed into animosity after they collided in Canada. Trading wins, aggressive on-track skirmishes and off-track conflicts brought one of the most dramatic seasons of Formula One history. Carlos Sainz managed to pip ahead of Charles Leclerc once again, achieving 320 points and 311 points respectively, totalling up to 631 points, 64 points behind Red Bull, and 123 points ahead of Mercedes.

Mercedes endured a more challenging season in 2022. Early on, the W13 struggled with pace, with both drivers being knocked out of Q2 in Saudi Arabia. Lewis Hamilton appeared as a title contender for most of the season, with 3 victories and 9 podiums, mostly in the mid-season, however fell back down the order again in the last 3 races. Hamilton finished 4th in the drivers standings with 309 points. George Russell struggled to match Hamilton's pace at first, however he did manage to achieve his first victory in Canada, 3 podium finishes and demonstrate excellent drives, eventually finishing 6th in the drivers standings with 199 points. Overall, Mercedes had bulletproof reliability, with no mechanical retirements. Mercedes finished 3rd in the constructors standings with 508 points, 344 points ahead of Alpine.

Alpine and Alfa Romeo were present in the battle for 4th in the Constructors' championship. Alpine, driven by drivers Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon, managed to maintain a good position in the midfield fight. Alfa Romeo had another strong season as well, with drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. They had good speed and consistency, consistently finishing in the points. Alfa Romeo's strong performance allowed them to challenge Alpine for fourth position in the Constructors' Championship. The battle between Alpine and Alfa Romeo heated up as the season progressed, with both teams striving for the coveted fourth slot. In the Constructors' Championship, Alpine emerged as the superior squad, finishing fourth with 164 points, with Alfa Romeo finishing 34 points behind with 130.

McLaren suffered a challenging season in 2022, with a restrictive working window. They were hoping to close the gap to midfield rivals Alpine, however failed to do so. Once again, despite the difficult circumstances, drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo shown their skill and perseverance by earning points everywhere they could, with their upgrades enabling them to challenge the midfield in most of the second half. Despite their lack of competitiveness, McLaren finished sixth with 36 points.

AlphaTauri lacked competitiveness throughout the season. They were frequently near the rear of the field and had problems to earn points due to issues that originated in the previous car returning with a vengeance. Both Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda showcased their experience despite the chassis' lack of pace and reliability, with many mechanical retirements, resulting in AlphaTauri finishing 7th in the constructors standings with 34 points.

Haas had another rough season. Despite previous years of promise, they were unable to maintain continuous performance throughout the season. While Haas showed glimpses of brilliance in particular races, their absence of reliability impeded their overall growth. They failed to translate their qualifying pace into race results, regularly dropping to the bottom of the standings during the race. As a consequence, various sponsors terminated their contracts which left the team in a financial crisis Haas finished 8th in the 2022 Constructors' Championship with 32 points.

Due to more performance difficulties, Aston Martin was unable to achieve speed and competitiveness from their car. This season, both Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll had setbacks. While they occasionally showed signs of competitiveness, their performances were generally limited by the car's limitations. Vettel managed to secure 5th place in Canada, whereas Stroll had a more difficult time achieving identical results. In 2022, the Aston Martin squad finished ninth in the Constructors' Championship with 10 points. Although the squad had an overall difficult campaign since it was unable to sustain a consistent performance level, there were a few outstanding performances from them.

Finally, Williams had another catastrophic season, this time due to financial and mechanical challenges. On the technical front, Williams struggled with the performance of their car, the FW44. The car lacked pace and aggressiveness in comparison to its competitors. Albon managed to secure 8th place in Canada, his only points finish of the season. In terms of performance, Williams finished last in the 2022 Constructors' Championship. They only scored 4 points the whole season, which was a disaster for the team.
