PRE SEASON The top teams retained their line ups from the previous season, but there were a few changes lower down. Felipe Drugovich joined McLaren, joining Logan Sargeant, while Williams Porsche had an all new lineup, the returning Kevin Magnussen patnering promising young rookie Italian Andrea Antonelli. New Zealander Liam Lawson also returned, this time with Haas Maserati, along with Felipe Drugovich, for McLaren Honda.

OPENING RACES The season started with a maiden victory for the Andretti Cadillac outfit, with Colton Herta becoming the first American F1 winner in 50 years, overtaking Oscar Piastri in a sensational drive. Charles Leclerc then won for Audi in Saudi Arabia, with Herta on the podium again. Aston Martin then retuned to the top step of the podium, with Carlos Sainz finally winning his first race for the team in green, and also taking the lead of the championship. Then it was the turn of 2026 champion George Russell, making it 4 winners from 4 different races, in a Mercedes which was struggling for pace compared to it's predcessors. Ferrari then took their first win of the season, meaning it was 5 teams and 5 drivers who had all won a race so far in 2028. A notble absence from the winners list was Max Verstappen, the new Red Bull looking well off the pace, only realistically the 6th fastest car, whilst Williams Porsche were on the up, with Antonelli getting a top 5 finish in only his 3rd race.

MID SEASON RACES 6 different races, 6 different winners as Esteban Ocon took the win in Canada. Andretti Cadillac became the first team to win multiple race in 2028, showing that they were realistic champions. In the next race, it was another Andretti Cadillac winning, this time Colton Herta, becoming the first repeat winner driver after 7 rounds, taking the lead in the championship. But it was short lived, as Piastri won in Silverstone, taking the lead in the championship. Verstappen finally got a long awaited podium finish after 8 races. In Hungary, the reigning champion won his first race of the year, following home George Russell for a Mercedes 1-2 finish, as Herta retired and Piastri got a podium, extending his lead in the championship. Italy saw the longest wait for a win finally broken, with the Aston Martin looking quick at Monza it was suprisingly Lance Stroll who got the better of Carlos Sainz to take the team in green's 2nd win of the year, with another Piastri podium giving him a sizeble lead in the championship. He would consolidate his position futher by taking his 3rd win of the season in Belgium, with Ocon coming home in 2nd in the race and taking 2nd in the championship. Wililams Porsche were continuing to show promise, with a top 5 finish for Keving Magnussen, while Alpine and McLaren were falling behind.

CLOSING RACES Brazil saw Piastri retire with engine failure, as Verstappen got a brilliant win in the underperforming Red Bull Ford. However, shock news followed the race as he announced his retirement at the end of the season, looking to pursue other forms of motorsport. The United States Grand Prix saw Herta take his 3rd win of the season in a masterful demonstration of racecraft, and with Ocon running home in P2, it was a 1-2 finish for the American team with an American engine at their home race, closing the championship gap to Piastri. But then in Singapore, Piastri's chances took a huge hit, as he crashed with Charles Leclerc, but luckily, main rival Herta also retired. However, a P2 finish for Ocon very much kept the pressure on Piastri, the Frenchman's consitency allowing him to go into the final race with a big chance of the championship. Theo Pouchaire won the race, giving him a mathematical chance of claiming his first World Championship in Japan. Max Verstappen dominate his last ever race in Formula One, winning to close the book on a legendary chapter in Formula One history, but all eyes were foccused on the battle behind for the championship. Piastri's engine failure halfway through the race effectively ending his hopes of a first World Championship, so it was a duel of the Andretti Cadillac's. Ocon was the one who prevailed, overtaking Andrea Antonelli for 6th position, sealing the championship by 1 point, the closest ever in Formula One history.
